janwas a741fb2f33 fix ChooseCacheSize - more simple, no longer relies on available-memory reporting (because Linux has a weird understanding of "available")
closes #611, refs #832

Path now goes to some trouble to prevent mixing / and \ slashes (causes trouble when hotloading, and some Windows APIs can't handle it, either)
